Liposuction

Frequently asked questions:

Is awake liposuction safe?

Yes, awake liposuction is a safe and effective procedure when performed by a well-trained physician. Dr. Ibrahim will monitor you throughout the entire process to ensure your safety and comfort.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of the procedure depends on the amount of fat being removed but typically takes about 1-2 hours to remove excess fat from the treatment area.

What is the recovery time following awake liposuction?

Recovery times vary from patient to patient, but most can return to their regular routine within a few days after treatment. You may experience some mild swelling and bruise in the area that was treated, but this should subside within a few weeks.

What kind of results can I expect?

You can generally expect improved body contouring with fat removal in the area that was treated. The results will be visible immediately after treatment but may continue to improve over time as your body adjusts. Additionally, some patients may experience smoother skin texture following awake liposuction as well.

Are there any risks involved with awake liposuction?

As with all surgical procedures, there are some risks associated with awake liposuction procedures. These include infection, seromas (fluid accumulation in pockets in areas of fat removal), bleeding, localized areas of decreased skin sensation, scarring, and very rarely fat embolism (when combined with BBL). However, these can be minimized by following your doctor’s post-operative instructions closely (especially wearing a compression garment). Dr. Ibrahim will discuss the potential risks in greater detail during your consultation.

What is a 360?

A 360 lipo is one of the liposuction techniques in which we remove fat from all sides of the trunk. It helps to sculpt and reshape areas such as the abdomen, back, buttocks, and flanks by removing extra fat deposits from multiple angles. As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks involved so it’s best to talk to your doctor before undergoing this treatment.

Will I get lumps and bumps after liposuction?

While liposuction can help to contour and shape your body, it is not a method of weight loss. After the procedure, you may experience some lumps or bumps around treated areas. These are typically temporary and can be managed with massage techniques recommended by Dr. Ibrahim. Additionally, wearing a compressive garment after surgery can help to reduce swelling and smooth out any irregularities in the skin. However, you don’t want to gain weight after the procedure to maintain your perfect results.

How long will my results last?

The amount of time that your results last depend on factors such as age, lifestyle habits, and genetics. However, most patients who maintain a stable body weight through a healthy diet and exercise can expect long-lasting results from liposuction. With proper care, you may even see your results improve over time.

Is there any downtime after awake liposuction?

Generally, you can expect some downtime following your procedure. This may include taking a few days off work for recovery and avoiding strenuous activity for about 2 weeks. Dr. Ibrahim will provide you with instructions on how to care for yourself as you heal, so it’s important to follow them closely. With the right care, you should be able to resume your normal routine in no time.

Are there any risks associated with awake liposuction?

Like all medical procedures, there are some risks associated with awake liposuction, although these are usually minor and temporary. These may include swelling, bruising, numbness or tingling sensations in the treated area, and soreness or stiffness when moving. It’s important to discuss any risks with your doctor prior to the procedure. In addition, you should also follow their instructions for recovery in order to minimize any potential complications.

Can I go back to work after awake liposuction?

Yes, you can typically go back to work within a few days following your procedure. However, it’s important that you listen to your doctor’s advice and take it easy during the recovery period. It may also be beneficial to take a few days off work after the procedure so that you can rest and allow your body time to heal.

Is awake liposuction painful?

Most patients report minimal discomfort during the awake liposuction procedure, with some describing it as feeling like a tight pinch or tingling sensation. Dr. Ibrahim will administer local anesthesia and other medications to help control any pain or discomfort throughout the procedure (tumescent technique). Afterward, you may experience some soreness in the treated area for several days, but this should gradually improve over time as your body adjusts. Additionally, some patients may experience smoother skin texture following awake liposuction as well.

Is liposuction for everyone?

No, liposuction is not suitable for everyone and it’s important to discuss your goals with Dr. Ibrahim prior to the procedure. If you have excess skin in your abdomen, removing excess fat cells with liposuction procedure may worsen it, you should plan for a tummy tuck combined with your liposuction. We also discuss with you realistic expectations.

Can awake liposuction be used to treat other areas of my body?

Yes, awake liposuction can be used to sculpt and contour many areas of your body including your neck, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs. Dr. Ibrahim will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your individual needs and goals. This ensures that you get the best possible results from your procedure.

Can awake liposuction remove excess skin?

While awake liposuction can help to reduce fat and contour the body, it’s not a substitute for weight loss or a means to treat excess skin. If you are concerned about loose or sagging skin in the treated area, your doctor may recommend combining awake liposuction with other procedures such as a tummy tuck. This will help to reduce fat, sculpt the body and address any issues with skin laxity. Dr. Ibrahim will be able to provide more information on these treatment options during your consultation.

Can I do large volume liposuction using this technique?

No, for safety, and to prevent complications such as blood clots, massive bleeding, blood pressure problems, we can only remove up to 4000cc of fat during this procedure. If more fat is needed to be removed, it can be done in another session at a later date after several weeks of recovery.

How much does awake liposuction cost?

The cost of your procedure will depend on the scope and complexity of your treatment plan. This can include factors such as the number of areas being treated, any additional procedures that may be recommended, and your individual needs. Dr. Ibrahim will provide a detailed description of costs associated with the procedure during your consultation. It’s important to note that awake liposuction is considered an elective procedure, so it will not be covered by your insurance provider. However, there are several financing options available to help make the cost more affordable. If you have any questions about the cost of your procedure, please speak with Dr. Ibrahim during your consultation.
