In the beauty world, Botox® treatments are always trendy. It is a safe but above all effective way to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Botox® never ceases to be popular for making the time pass slower – it diminishes the visible effects of aging on your face. In comparison to skincare products and other new technologies, Botox® is on the top when it comes to injectable wrinkle-smoothing treatments.
Botox® was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use more than two decades ago, and thus became the most wanted non-surgical treatment for beauty enhancement. Every year a huge number of people turn to Botox® to lessen the lines caused by facial expressions.
WHAT CAUSES FACIAL WRINKLES?
Aging is not the only reason that can affect the skin. Facial wrinkles can be formed by overusing muscles to make expressions. These lines are called dynamic wrinkles and the well-known examples are crow’s feet and vertical frowning lines between eyebrows.
As time passes and the skin gets older it loses its natural compounds like collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. It loses volume, hydrations and proteins that make it stretch. So, the dynamic wrinkles that used to disappear when the skin was younger and fresher, actually stay on the face and can be seen even when the muscles are relaxed. Then these wrinkles become static and are visible all the time.
There are also some other factors that contribute to the formation of wrinkles such as environmental influences like too much sun exposure, stress and smoking.
WHAT IS BOTOX®?
Botox® consists of a botulinum toxin type A which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This compound actually represents an extremely purified neurotoxic protein that aims at nerves that are in charge of muscle movement. It freezes the nerves and prevents them from producing the signals which trigger muscle movements. The result is that overactive muscles become relaxed and dynamic wrinkles are no longer produced. This fact is what makes Botox® so effective in preventing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. After the treatment, your skin is smoother and more youthful.
The history of botulinum toxin goes way back, even before it was used for cosmetic purposes. First, it was used in medicine for the treatment of strabismus, then for muscle spasms and in the end for softening the lines. This last effect was actually a side effect that brought Botulinum toxin to the role and the name it has today. It was officially named Botox® and it started to be used for cosmetic purposes in1992.
WHERE BOTOX® CAN BE USED
Botox® injections have a wide variety of usage and can give a more youthful appearance in different parts of the face and body. Dynamic lines are most likely to appear in the upper face areas. They include:
Crow’s feet on the outer corners of the eyes, so Botox® treatment can be used to remove these lines.
Vertical glabellar lines between the eyebrows, that make people look angry can be reduced and made smoother.
Bunny lines that appear on the sides of the nose bridge.
Lines on the forehead which make people look worried or stressed can be reduced and make the skin more youthful.
These are perhaps the most popular face areas that can be treated with Botox®, but it can be used for other cosmetic purposes such as:
Making vertical necklines or cords softer
Rejuvenating neck and jawline -Nefertiti Neck Lift. The Botox® treatment benefits in this case because it brings more definition to the jawline and smooths the wrinkles in the neck area.
Remodeling the tip of the nose
Making chin dimples smoother
Lifting the corners of the mouth and the eyebrows
Positioning a gummy smile
Making the jaw slimmer
Also, Botox® for underarm sweating can be used to treat conditions like hyperhidrosis which results in excessively sweaty underarms. When injected, Botox® blocks the chemicals in the body that trigger sweat glands. A lot of people who suffer from this condition turn to Botox® treatment because it is a quick, comfortable and non-surgical procedure with almost no side effects. Most importantly underarm Botox® injections are more than 80% effective in reducing underarm sweating.
For medical purposes, Botox® can also be used to:
Reduce teeth grinding and jaw clenching
Prevent chronic migraines
Treat muscle spasms
Of course, the uses of Botox® don’t stop here. The new ways of using Botox® are constantly being explored and perfected. Advanced applications of Botox® in therapeutic and cosmetic purposes are continuing to appear.

HOW BOTOX® WORKS
When you decide to undergo Botox® treatment first you will be consulted by Better Life Clinics physician. examine your face in ®detail and see what kind of facial expressions you make. will ask you about your medical history and the most important question – what goals you wish to achieve with Botox treatment. After the physician confirm you are a suitable candidate, the treatment can start.
The Botox® treatment lasts very shortly, and it is just mildly uncomfortable so there is no need for anesthesia. The physician first cleans the area which will be treated and then injects Botox ®with a tiny needle into the targeted muscles. As already mentioned, you experience only mild discomfort during the injecting of Botox® and that is one of the reasons why this cosmetic procedure is so popular.
BOTOX® RESULTS AND DOWNTIME
After the Botox® treatment, there is no downtime or discomfort. The most usual side effect is brief bruising which stops shortly after the treatment. It is recommended not to use aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications two weeks prior to the treatment because you will lower the possibility of bruising after the treatment. You can even apply skincare products or makeup right after the treatment. You should only steer clear of workouts for 24 hours.
There are some possible side effects that might occur after the Botox® treatment such as pain, burning, headache, swelling and itching in the area that was treated, but these inconveniences normally end in one or two days. A small number of patients can develop ptosis or eyelid drooping, but this also ends after three weeks. This side effect is likely to be caused if the injected Botox® is moved around the area that was treated, so you shouldn’t lie down flat for three to four hours after the treatment, and you should withhold from massaging the area for at least 12 hours.
After the Botox® treatment, three to seven days need to pass in order to see the first results and two weeks to notice the full results. Generally, according to people who tried Botox®, the injections can last from four to six months when corrective treatment is necessary. Generally, over time, your muscles stay relaxed, and you learn how to avoid facial expressions which led to wrinkles at first. But when you stop using Botox® your muscles start contracting again and new wrinkles will start forming again. You won’t need many Botox® corrections to keep your skin refreshed and naturally looking – two to three treatments a year will do the trick.
